What Westhampton Beach does to a window
Dune Road is seven miles of barrier beach with the Atlantic on one side and Moriches Bay on the other, and there is no side of it that escapes the salt. Oceanfront homes dry a white film within a week of a cleaning, heaviest in a nor'easter when the spray carries across the whole strip to the bay side, and the elevated houses with window walls facing the ocean are the hardest working glass we see. Summer humidity keeps the film soft and the blowing sand scratches the lower panes on windy afternoons.
Across the bridge the salt eases but never stops.
